PSD – NZ training dates
2026 PSD training dates
The Professional Standards team are planning for online webinars for Safe Church training for New Zealand.
The details are as follows:
Monday 6 July 7 to 8 pm Level 1 – Induction
Tuesday 7 July 7 to 8 pm Level 1 – Safeguarding
Thursday 16 July 7 to 8 pm Level 2 – Church Safe
Please register to attend by 26 June 2026, using the form that is on this page: LCNZ Professional Standards
Who should be attending?
- Those whose current compliance dates have recently or are about to expire.
- Those who are new to positions requiring completion of this training.
This will include members of church councils, those in children and youth ministries, and those in ministries with vulnerable persons. - Those in employment with the LCNZ and its congregations
Other requirements
Police Vetting
The LCNZ uses the police vetting option in lieu of the Working with Children/Vulnerable People Checks required by the LCANZ. Due to operational requirements at the Police HQ, some of these are being returned unassessed. PSD will assess these and make a decision on the next required step and they will advise you and your parish or congregation on what is required.
Code of Conduct
The PSD have been working with the LCANZ General Church Board regarding the introduction of the need for the Code of Conduct to be signed. This is a requirement in Australia. The LCNZ CoS are working towards a New Zealand version that meets the New Zealand requirements.
Alternative training
Of course, you can also complete the required training using the online self-paced online training courses. The sessions can be accessed via the LCNZ website: LCNZ Professional Standards (follow the links to the LCA website). Please ensure you follow the exact instructions to access these. You may also need to check your junk mail box for the confirmation of enrolment emails. If you don’t get a response within 24 hours, please contact the PSO Liz Ewers (liz.ewers@lca.org.au).
After completion
Once your training is completed the following happens:
- The PSD will issue completion certificates
- Your Parish or congregation will be advised of the completion
- The LCA’s Safety Management Online (SMO) system will be updated.
- Your personal data will be entered into the SMO to ensure you are properly identified (and not mixed up with another person).
- You will be reminded once the training expires
- PSD use SMO to report to LCNZ Council of Synod on training statistics and required compliance.
