CR04 Multi-year Gateway Gift Distributions
PROPOSED MOTION – Gateway – Multi-Year Project Grant Application and Approval Process
Submitted by: Mountainside Lutheran Church (M/Side#4)
BE IT RESOLVED:

Gateway Gift Trust Board approves applications for funding of grants for a period of up to three years to support the mission and ministry of Congregations. Funding to include ministry staff (Pastor’s, SMP’s, Lay Workers), outreach initiatives, and operational expenditure needs over a three-year period.
REASONS FOR THE MOTION
Purpose To revise the Gateway Gift Trust Board grant approval processes to allow for the approval of Three-Year funding for multi-year projects.
Explanation
The current Gateway Gift grant annual application and approval process leads to short-term thinking due to the uncertainty this gives over funding and support of ministry projects with a longer-term vision.
By allowing Congregations to apply for a maximum of three years funding on multi-year projects, this will allow them to have a long-term plan with financial certainty over a three-year period.
If funding is required to extend the ministry beyond three years, the Congregation would be required to make a further application at the conclusion of the current funding period.
This will give congregations the ability to be bold in their mission and ministry, to Gods glory.
Mountainside has also submitted a further two remits which will provide funding support for this:
- M/Side#1 – Remit related to the formula used to determine the amount to be allocated to the income account of the Gateway Gift Trust each financial year and made available for allocation/distribution (including requiring 1%pa of the capital to be made available for allocation/distribution each year), and
- M/Side#2 – Remit related to carrying forward of any unallocated/undistributed income in any year, this to be made available for allocation/distribution in subsequent years.
Should these remits pass, these will provide a greater pool of funds available to be allocated/distributed in any year and gives the Gateway Gift Trust Board the capacity and confidence needed to support and commit to larger and longer-term proposals without having to deny or only partially fund requests for those projects or other shorter- term projects.
SUBMITTING BODY DETAILS
This has been approved by the authorised body at a duly held meeting and is confirmed as an accurate and complete version of the agreed proposal.
