Roman Catholic – Lutheran Dialogue
The 2025 Convention of Synod elected three Lutheran members to the dialogue for the next Synodical period.
They were Dr Petrus Simons (from Wellington St Pauls), Rev Mark Whitfield (from Otautahi Christchurch St Pauls) and Georgina Preston (from Wellington St Pauls).
The Dialogue meet 4 times a year (August, November, February and May in Wellington. The chair of the dialogue is currently Sister Kathleen Rushton who is appointed by the Catholic Church.
The Dialogue are currently focusing on the Eucharist in the same way we did with baptism, and out of this, we hope will come a statement, and some material that enables the people of both denominations to talk with each other. This will take some significant work over a number of meetings.
Mark Whitfield says they will also continue to encourage our people to ‘look out’ for each other and meet up in locations where there are both Roman Catholics and Lutherans.
