No power? No worries!
In the village of Tikokino, 39 kms from Hastings, there is a small church building which has no electricity and a leaky roof which gets used on the last Sunday of each month with a service organised by volunteers from the local community. Each month a minister from a different denomination is asked to lead a service according to their own tradition. One of the Tikokino folk, who was raised in the Lutheran tradition in Finland, suggested a Lutheran service. Bill Groves was contacted some time ago and passed the message to Pr John Davison. On the 30th of June, Pr John led a Lutheran service for the folk in Tikokino. Diane Davison played the keyboard, powered by a generator. 18 Tikokino locals attended the service along with Bill and Noeline Groves from Hastings Redeemer congregation. Following the service a morning tea was served by the local community and the local hosts organised lunch in the local pub with a farm tour to follow. All of this enabled some good fellowship and the possibility of a repeat visit some-time in the future.
