Council of Synod news June 2024
Significant items that were discussed at the Council of Synod meeting on 11 June included:
- Stories about what God is doing in the LCNZ were shared in “A Minute for Mission”.
- Rev Andy Marr and Mrs Lesley Johnson were asked to attend the installation of Pastor Richard Schwedes as Bishop of NSW & ACT and New Zealand at Epping Lutheran Church on 28 July 2024 from 3:00 pm.
- Rev Andy Marr will write a greeting for Pastor Richard Schwedes on the occasion of his Installation as Bishop. The greeting will be in Te Reo and English
- Shares in Vector which originally belonged to St Michael’s in Lower Hutt and transferred to the LCNZ on the closure of St Michaels are in the process of being sold.
- The LCANZ Ministry Future Report was received and discussed. The report is to be forwarded to the Church Worker Conference in September for further in-depth discussion.
- The LCNZ Bishop’s Task Force was reconvened. This Task Force is set up to find a Bishop of New Zealand. The members so far are Pastor Nich Kitchen (Auckland), Mrs Lesley Johnson (Hamilton), Pastor Phil Husband (Whanganui) and Pastor Richard Schwedes (Bishop of NSW and ACT and LCNZ). Additional members will be added. A terms of reference is to be written in the first instance.
- LCNZ is having conversations with Laidlaw College with a view to providing pastoral training for pastors and lay members with a New Zealand focus.
