GGTB – Grants for 2026
Major Grants approved for LCNZ congregations for funding of projects in 2026.
The Gateway Gift Trust Board has received, processed and considered the annual grant applications for 2026 projects.
Grants were approved at the meeting on 9 September as follows:
- Lutheran Church of New Zealand – Bishop’s office operations $87,000
- Auckland Mountainside Parish – Local Mission for 3 years

These grants will be paid to the parishes quarterly.
Minor Grants
Minor grants will continue to be available in 2026 up to $8,000 per project.

Dawn Corry Music Scholarships
The Dawn Corry Musician’s Scholarship Fund honours the services of the late Dawn Corry (1941-2008) as an organist/pianist to various congregations of the Lutheran Church of New Zealand with a scholarship which will support musicians within congregations of the LCNZ as they further their studies, to equip themselves to play music within the worship life of their congregation.
A maximum amount of $1000 may be awarded in one year
Estate of Martha Louise Hintz Fund
This fund has been established to facilitate the improvement, repair and maintenance of churches and other buildings owned and used by the Lutheran Church of New Zealand. Depending on the amount of money required, up to 100 per cent of a project’s costs may be met by the Hintz Fund.
Approximately $5,300 is available from this fund annually.

Te Punga Memorial Fund
The Hamuera and Lydia Te Punga Memorial Fund was established in 2022 to honour the service of the Reverend Hamuera Hautu Irirangi Te Punga and Mrs Lydia Te Punga within the Lutheran Church of New Zealand (1913-1951). Its objects are designed to reflect their ministries among the people of Te Hahi Rutana o Aotearoa.
Applications to this fund will need to meet at least one of the following three objects. The objects of the fund are:
- To support the training in New Zealand of members of the LCNZ to serve in any form of ministry supported by the LCNZ. Support may be in the form of educational costs and/or a living allowance;
- To support the training and education of members, ministers, and prospective ministers for service in the Lutheran Church in the specific context of te ao Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand;
- To support the theological education of members of the LCNZ seeking theological education that is delivered outside New Zealand.
Hetty Gudopp Fund
This fund has been established to facilitate longer-term mission or ministry projects, where there is no other source of funding available within the Lutheran Church of New Zealand. Depending on the amount of money required, up to 100 per cent of a project’s costs may be met by the Hetty Gudopp Fund.
Approximately $4,300 is available from this fund annually.
Lilian Schwarz Fund
This fund has been established to provide financial support for Christian education programs directed toward persons less than 30 years of age. These include programs approved by the Lutheran Church of New Zealand and operating within New Zealand, or for New Zealand-domiciled people to attend overseas.
Approximately $4,700 is available from this fund annually.
Project James Fund
This fund has been established to provide financial support for one-off mission or ministry projects, where there is no other source of funding available within the Lutheran Church of New Zealand. These may include training programs approved by the Lutheran Church of New Zealand and operating within New Zealand, or for New Zealand-domiciled people to attend overseas.
Approximately $4,200 is available from this fund annually.
Hintz Fund
This fund has been established to provide financial support for one-off property projects, where there is no other source of funding available within the Lutheran Church of New Zealand. These may include training programs approved by the Lutheran Church of New Zealand and operating within New Zealand, or for New Zealand-domiciled people to attend overseas.
Approximately $8,000 is available from this fund annually.
