UNICEF – A Lenten Sacrifice
Greetings to members of the Lutheran Church in New Zealand
As we journey through Lent, we return to the quiet clarity of the season—a time to reflect on what truly matters, to examine our hearts, and to recommit to the path of compassion. We are reminded of the profound truth that WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER, bound by a shared calling to serve the least of these.
We are living in a time of stark division and fragility. Yet, for the most vulnerable among us—the children—our collaboration has never been more essential. In 2026, an estimated 200 million children will require humanitarian assistance. Meeting this moment does not require the loudest voice but by our individual actions we can change a life.
Whether it is a child far away in Gaza, Sudan or Ukraine, or our neighbour right here in the Pacific, we have seen that partnership sustains.
Your partnership is a lifeline. It ensures that children are not forgotten.
As you consider your Lenten sacrifice or almsgiving, UNICEF invites you to amplify your impact. A personal gift before 31 March is eligible for a 33.33% tax credit for the 2025/2026 financial year:
-
$300 of impact, with $100 returned through your tax credit
-
$600 of impact, with $200 returned through your tax credit
-
$1,500 of impact, with $500 returned through your tax credit
-
$3,000 of impact, with $1,000 returned through your tax credit
-
$6,000 of impact, with $2,000 returned through your tax credit
Your generosity will deliver immediate relief while strengthening long-term resilience. It supports life-saving healthcare, safe water, nutrition, and education—today and for the future. It is a testament to our shared hope.
Together, we can turn generosity into lasting impact, ensuring every child grows up safe, healthy, and hopeful.
