Significant items that were discussed at the Council of Synod (CoS) meeting held by Teams on 12 November 2024
Meeting opening items
- Bishop Richard led a Karakia based on Acts 10:9-23
- Members share minute for mission items
Standard items
- Congregation Safe Church registers were presented to Council.
- Bishop Richard reported on number of items under action.
Agenda items
- LCNZ Third Quarterly Financial Statements to September 2024 were received and these show a surplus of $40,500 and a year-to-date surplus of $51,500
- LCNZ have identified several LCNZ congregations who have not forwarded the LCA Superannuation amounts on behalf of their pastors. COS are working with the affected congregations to rectify the situation with a view to making the outstanding payments as soon as practicable.
- Approval to pay Christchurch St Paul’s congregation $23,007 from the Christchurch Disaster Fund Reserve for a portion of the Property Safety and Improvement project.
- Appointed Lesley Johnson as Chairperson of the Nominations Committee in preparation of the 2025 Convention of Synod.
- Agreed to commence work on the Bishop’s manse to rectify building issues. A building consent request has been lodged with Wellington City Council. A tender programme will commence once the consent has been issued.
Meeting ending
- The meeting ended in prayer led by Lesley Johnson
- The next meeting will be by Teams on Tuesday 10 December 2024 after the GGTB meeting.
