News from Council of Synod March 2024
The Council of Synod met on 12 March. Items of interest include:
- The Charities Commission are reminding Charities that if you are registered as an Incorporated Society (as opposed to a Registered Charity) then you are required to reregister by 31 December 2025 to ensure that all your current benefits continue. Failure to do so could see things like IRD donation rebates, income tax exemptions, city council rates rebates, and other exemptions may no longer be available.
You will need to have an updated constitution, ensure that all leadership positions are filled, and your leadership are correctly elected and registered.
If you need any assistance, please call or email Debbie Venz at the LCNZ office. - As part of exploring Mission Opportunities for the LCNZ Pastor Mark Worthing (Pastor at Port Macquarrie congregation and Dean of Frontier Training) attended the meeting and shared his experiences in his mission work. Since he has arrived in the congregation the membership has doubled. He has given his parish permission to go out and make disciples, using shared meals, interests and experiences and based on intentional discipleship. This is being intentionally shared with CoS, CWC and congregations. If you are interested in bringing this approach to your congregation please speak with your pastor or contact Bishop Robert.
- CoS approved Rev Andy Marr (Chairperson Cos, SMP Upper Moutere) to attend the LCANZ Collaborative Mission Retreat in Sydney.
- Several congregations and the LCNZ are reviewing their constitutions. A working group is being set up to assist this process. If you also need your constitution updated email Debbie Venz and you can be included in this process.
